The Girl With The Red Notebook

Who is this girl? Could it be your own big sister, or maybe a distant cousin? The girl with the red notebook. With eyes that seduce the blind, and hair black as coal from the outside she was just a girl, but not even she knew that she had the heart of a lioness. A pioneer? Yes indeed. She stood her ground, she fought with thought, a conqueror of fear, she….wrote the book. Did she fight alongside men for a country so dear? Raising her flag up high, she is part of the reason the story is still alive today.

It’s not about how well the story was written, it’s not how threatening the book is, the significance lies in how the book was buried for 6 years, found by chance and hidden from her and finally ending up in my own hands this morning. I’m going to share a story that you can tell and will forever cherish. Never knowing how well she can write, and write she did. It only takes a pen to write a story, but for this one it took the courage to risk being kidnapped or even killed. You see every rising nation is bound to be tested by its greatness, unfortunately Kuwait failed the test, but let me tell you the Girl didn’t nor did any other Kuwaiti who stood their ground and fought for their blood country. Loved from the heart by all its citizens, Kuwait treasures the ancient streets where I learned to crawl.

I wasn’t born on the second of August, but she was..i thought that August 2nd 1990 stands for 2 things. The invasion of my dear Kuwait, and the cancellation of my parents engagement party. But it marked the rise of a new form of Humanity: Kuwaitis standing up for each other and defending their land.

Dreamers all around the world, welcome to the nest. Hope we treat you with the best of our hospitality. This one is raw, its nothing like we posted before.

What is it? A red Notebook! yes a book, not any book. You see it wasnt printed on white paper and you surely won’t find it on the Best Seller stand. Instead of a million copies, this book is one of a kind. And so it withholds the story of a Kuwaiti girl, from the day off the Iraqi invasion till the reunion if her lucky ones.

So here it is, handwritten with fear and courage, ripped pages, signatures, drawings, starvation, whats so special about Sundays? knocking doors, a dictionary of prayers, a list of blocked dangerous streets, circled numbers on calendars, hourly written updates…..

Under the roofs of Daydreamer’s Nest, We present to you….

the red notebook

This day, twenty two years ago 8 a.m. she grabbed a pen, the red notebook she found under the sofa and began writing….

Day#1 August 2nd, 1990.
